Friends and family have been telling me for what feels like forever that I need an Amazon Alexa in my life, and after my sister told me about how much she loved hers, I finally went and got an Alexa of my own.
When I first got her, I was thrilled with the ability to play music whenever I wanted, and I even asked her about the weather and she gave me a surprisingly accurate report. Ransom has asked her about 100 times to make him a sandwich, and she always responds with “alright – you’re a sandwich” to which he laughs and laughs.
But what I didn’t realize is how truly helpful she is, and how her set of “Life Hacks” skills can help to make living a healthy lifestyle a whole lot easier!
Alexa, Make My Life Easier
I can only assume that for generations, mothers everywhere have been wondering when they could utter the phrase ‘make my life easier’ into existence and that it would somehow magically happen. Well in 2018, that wish has been granted, all thanks to Amazon.
With your Amazon Alexa device, you can say “Alexa, make my life easier” and she will say: “Okay, I have a few skills for that“.
She has ten skills in fact, and I am going to walk you through how to set up a few of your own, including some of my favorite skills tcho help make healthy living happier and easier.
Life Hack Skills
1 – Chop Chop
Anyone trying to live a healthy lifestyle already knows that consuming a wide variety of fruits and vegetables is one of the most important things you can do to promote good health.
But what are you supposed to do when you have a kiwi and you have no idea what to do with it? Ask Alexa.
The Chop Chop feature walks you through how to chop different fruits and vegetables. Simply get started by saying “Alexa, chop chop”.
What I love most are the comments on the Alexa Chop Chop review page from individuals who say that they are now consuming different fruits and vegetables that they have never tried before – that is a win-win for health and nutrition!

2 – Start Nagging Me
I don’t know about you, but I know from experience that Mom brain is real. Often, I will think of something I really need to do and then get side tracked and totally forget what I was supposed to do in the first place.
Like the daily forgetting to take my vitamins, or the more critical, forgetting to pull the salmon out from under the broiler (and accidentally setting it on fire).
Thankfully, with Alexa you can just say ‘Alexa, start nagging me’, she will ask you what your task is and how many minutes you need to be reminded. The nagging comes every minute and after 10 minutes of being reminded Alexa will check with you to see if you have done the task.

I feel like I am always talking about mindfulness, taking time to care for our mental health, and reducing stress and anxiety in our lives, but I also know how hard it is to actually implement the strategies when you need them the most.
Thankfully, Alexa can help with her ‘Calm Now’ life hack that will walk you through proven calming techniques such as taking a deep breath to help you restore come calm in the moment.
Originally targeted to kids, this skill that also been found to be helpful for adults as well. Ideally kids using this skill will learn the calming techniques well enough so that eventually they can calm themselves down without the help of Alexa. Hopefully, adults using this skill will also find it helpful, while appreciating its playful nature, and appreciating a calmer, more enjoyable child.

5 – House Tracker
Living a healthy lifestyle has many perks, but it also comes with its fair share of headaches. Just imagine doing all the dishes after a major Sunday meal prep session or mopping the floor after everyone comes inside from a long, muddy hike.
Luckily, Alexa has turned managing chores into something not only manageable, but also fun for the whole family by turning chore time into game time. Every time someone does a chore, they earn a point which helps to incentivise family members to be at the top of their household letter-board each week.
