Sure, we all know that adding more seafood into our diet can have positive health benefits, including heart healthy omega-3’s, but if you don’t know how or are too scared to cook it, that is a huge problem.

An Interview with the Starkist Dietitian
I am lucky enough to have had the opportunity to meet the wonderful Laura M. Ali, MS, RDN, LDN, the registered dietitian nutritionist behind the StarKist brand, not once but twice this year.
We had the opportunity to catch up at FNCE, the Food Nutrition Conference and Expo, aka the largest dietitian gathering of the year and I was able to ask her some questions about the products!
Here are the highlights of our interview:
Question #1: What recent product line changes are you most proud of?
Through our various meetings this year, I know that Laura has worked hard to bring all of the new changes to the StarKist brand throughout the year. She notes that she is most proud of the “Single serve product options, because they are so easy to take on the road and go” and I couldn’t agree more! To not need a can opener or to drain the product is huge. It is so much more convenient to just grab a pouch and eat whenever, where ever.
Question #2: What are some trends you think the StarKist brand will start to see in 2018?
We had an excellent conversation about what trends we will see coming in 2018, and one of the most important notes I took away is that because companies like StarKist are making their products with cleaner ingredient labels, we will start to see a more positive attitude shift towards pre-packaged foods. For a while, it seemed that we were getting bombarded with the message to “only shop the perimeter of the grocery store” but we are now realizing that we were leaving out a lot of really important food groups!
Question #3: What is your personal favorite Starkist product?
I know, I know, this one is like asking ‘who is your favorite child’, but Laura said “if I had to pick one, it would be the Sweet and Spicy Tuna or the Tuna Creations® BOLD Thai Chili Style packet”.
