Citrus Chia Fresca Rehydration Drink
I get kind of moody with my drinks.
I will drink the same thing for a few months, until I drastically change what I want, typically with the season. Very rarely do I drink just plain water, so it always has to be jazzed up, like my favorite Honey & Ginger Warm Lemon Water.

Unfortunately, since I’ve been sick I’ve had to cut alcohol out of my diet (for now) so a mocktail recipe it is. But I kind of worked out perfect because I’ve recently reconnected with an old high school friend on a topic that is really important to the both of us, and that is raising awareness for diabetes education and research.
As you may know, my little sister is a Type 1 Diabetic and inspired me to become a registered dietitian, so diabetes has always been near and dear to my heart.

Together we came up with this delicious Citrus Chia Fresca recipe, a fantastic beverage that anyone can enjoy, but specially designed to be a recovery drink for those participating in the race this year.

Seeing some of the health problems in my family, including type 2 diabetes, I decided I wanted to do everything I could now to mitigate my risks of developing the same health problems. Citrus Chia Fresca Health Benefits
Now that you know a little bit more about Erika and her amazing passion for riding for a cure, lets get to this delicious recipe.
Together we wanted to create a fabulous drink that would provide many health benefits to anyone, including those who may be participating in the race.
Of course, the most important ingredient in this recipe is water. We all know we need water to replenish what is lost during exercise, and that it is important to stay hydrated because dehydration could lead to very serious medical problems.
Then we added citrus juice in the form of lemon, lime and orange juice, which will help to provide vitamins and important electrolytes, including potassium.
And speaking of electrolytes, when you sweat a lot, you not only lose a lot of water but you lose the important mineral sodium as well, so we have added a hearty dash to this drink so you can replenish what was lost during your race.)
We also added chia seeds, because they are a nutritional powerhouse that add a unique texture to this drink – in a good way!

- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 2 cups filtered water
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon stevia, optional to taste
- juice from 1 lime
- Mix all of your ingredients together and enjoy!
