Unilever Agents of Change Immersion Event
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I spent a super fun weekend this past June in NYC with a fabulous group of talented and like-minded registered dietitians who have been chosen to participate in the 2016 Agents of Change Program. I feel extremely honored to be chosen to partner with such an innovative company like Unilever who has committed to helping 1 BILLION people take action and to improve their health and wellbeing by 2020.
As a registered dietitian nutritionist I am passionate about helping others to improve their own lives in order to create a healthier, more sustainable future. Unilever has made a commitment to democratize real, nutritious, sustainable and inspiring food – without restrictions or sacrifice – and with food that tastes good, does good and does not cost the earth. I am passionate about these same guiding principles and food philosophies, making this partnership both natural and meaningful.
My Love for Lipton® Tea
We are all familiar with the term comfort food, but have you ever considered having a comfort beverage as well? Whenever I am looking to relax and unwind, my first step is to brew a cozy cup of black tea. Lipton® tea has been a part of my life since before I can remember, and is perhaps why I find such enjoyment from this simple, naturally refreshing calorie-free drink. In fact, my entire family laughs and jokes about how my mother used to give me a “tea ba-ba” when I was a baby.
My favorite part of the Agents of Change Immersion Event was learning more about the Lipton® Tea brand and the role they play within the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan. Lipton® works with Rainforest Alliance certified tea farms to help provide access to education, and a brighter future, for families across the tea plantations.
Rainforest Alliance Certified farms help to ensure sustainable farming practices and improve the quality of life for tea vendors. I was especially impressed to learn that Unilever has helped the Rainforest Alliance certify over 500,000 smallholder farms, set up 1685 Farmer Field Schools and train over 450,000 farmers in better growing practices.

The Culinary Institue of America
One of the most fun parts of the Immersion Event was getting the opportunity not only to visit the beautiful campus of The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, but to actually cook in the kitchen!! How many dietitians get such an amazing opportunity to improve their chefsmanship skills in one of the most prestigious culinary schools in America? I did!
In the kitchen we got to get creative in a quick action cooking challenge – it felt like one of those super fun reality shows! I was partnered up with the -beautiful and talented Sara-Jane Bedwell, a registered dietitian, media personality and author who I look up to very much. Together we were assigned to make a creative and delicious recipe featuring Hellmann’s® Real Mayonnaise and created the most nutritious and delicious Roasted Garlic Lemon Baked Cod!
Together Sarah-Jane and I had 30 minutes to create, cook, and present a recipe featuring Hellmann’s® Organic Roasted Garlic Mayonnaise – can you say yum?! This organic roasted garlic mayo is delicious and creamy and has been made with the finest organic ingredients like organic cage-free eggs and organic expeller-pressed oil. It is UDSA Organic certified and contains no artificial flavors or preservatives.
While I focus on a plant-based diet, I certainly believe in the importance of consuming quality animal based foods like eggs and dairy. It is extremely important to me that the animal based food that I consume is raised ethically and sustainably, which is why I am truly thrilled to support Hellmann’s® products that have made the commitment to source eggs from cage-free sources.
Our recipe used the organic garlic mayo to coat fresh cod loin which helps to seal in the moisture and create a delicious and flaky baked fish. We all know that consuming fish is important to our overall health, but did you know that the mayo contributes good nutritional qualities as well? Mayonnaise from Hellmann’s® is also a great fit into a nutritious diet because it is made with plant-based oils which are an excellent source of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids – AKA the GOOD kind of fat!
While the Agents of Change Immersion Event is over, my support and partnership with Unilever is not! Over the next few months I will be sharing with you some tasty and delicious recipes featuring some of my favorite Unilever brands such as Lipton® Tea and Breyers® Ice Cream. As always I will continue to share with you my passion for nutrition, chefmanship and sustainability and continue to share with you ways to create a healthier, more sustainable future.
