Learn how to make the smoothest, most delicious cup of cannabis-infused coffee for a delicious way to start your day - wake and bake style. A single cup built around a stable fat emulsion, so the dose stays in the coffee instead of on the sides of the mug.
Brew and rest: Brew 8 fluid ounces brewed coffee however you normally do, then let it sit off the heat for 2–3 minutes 03:00. You're aiming for roughly 150–160°F — hot enough to drink, cool enough that you're not flashing the alcohol off an ethanol tincture or nudging THC toward CBN.
Build the fat base: In the bottom of your mug, stir 2 tablespoons heavy cream, whole milk, or MCT oil, 1 milliliters cannabis tincture (see notes for dosing), and 0.3 teaspoons sunflower lecithin, liquid or powder (optional but recommended) together into a smooth slurry before any coffee goes in. The tincture needs to meet the fat first, not the water, this single step is what keeps the cannabinoids suspended instead of stranded on the ceramic.
Emulsify: Pour the rested coffee over the base and blend 20–30 seconds 00:30 with a handheld milk frother or immersion blender. A spoon will not do this. You want a thin cap of foam and no visible oil slick on the surface.
Sweeten and drink: Stir in 1 teaspoons maple syrup or sweetener of choice (optional) if you want it. Drink within about ten minutes, and stir every few sips — emulsions loosen as they cool, and an unstirred cup delivers a disproportionate share of the dose in the last third.
Wait before redosing: Give it 90 minutes 90:00 before considering a second cup. The caffeine announces itself in 15–45 minutes; the tincture, mostly swallowed rather than absorbed sublingually, takes 30–90. That gap is where people talk themselves into a second cup they regret.
Notes
Tincture type changes the math. An oil-based (MCT or coconut) tincture emulsifies most readily here, since the carrier is already fat. Alcohol-based tinctures work but taste sharper, and cannabinoids are far likelier to crash out and film the mug when ethanol hits hot water — with those, the cream and lecithin and the blending step stop being optional.Dosing. Divide the label potency by volume: 1 mL of a 5 mg/mL tincture is 5 mg. If you're calibrating for someone new to this, 2.5 mg is a reasonable first cup. Dose per cup rather than batching a pot — a thermos gives you no way to know what any given pour contains. The caffeine interaction is real. For some people the combination amplifies heart rate and jitteriness rather than balancing it, and the two onset curves arriving at different times makes that harder to read in the moment.Don't reheat it. Microwaving a finished cup breaks the emulsion and re-strands the cannabinoids on the mug.
