Why You Will Love This Guide
Tea tree oil is a natural remedy recognized for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, making it a favorite among those seeking clearer skin.
Interestingly, when paired with other plant-based solutions, like cannabis-infused skincare products, it provides even greater potential to elevate your skincare routine.
If you’re navigating the challenges of acne, this guide will show you how to effectively use tea tree oil while exploring how cannabis topicals can complement it.
Benefits of Tea Tree Oil for Acne
Tea tree oil, derived from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia plant, offers a range of skincare benefits, particularly for fighting acne. Here’s why it’s so effective for soothing your skin:
- Antibacterial Properties – Tea tree oil contains compounds that naturally eliminate harmful bacteria, including the ones that cause acne.
- Anti-inflammatory Action – Its natural properties help reduce swelling, redness, and irritation, making it ideal for soothing blemishes.
- Gentle Effectiveness – When properly diluted, tea tree oil can promote healthier skin without relying on chemicals or harsh treatments.
But don’t overlook cannabis! Like tea tree oil, cannabis boasts anti-inflammatory properties thanks to its cannabinoids, such as CBD.
Incorporating cannabis topicals alongside tea tree oil can provide an additional layer of skin-soothing benefits.
How to Use Tea Tree Oil for Acne
Here’s a breakdown of safe and effective ways to use tea tree oil to manage acne while maintaining healthy skin.
1. Add It to Your Skincare Products
- Mix 1 drop of tea tree oil into your regular cleanser or moisturizer. Ensure it’s thoroughly blended and avoid applying near your eyes.
- Combine with a cannabis-infused balm for combined antibacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits.
2. Create a DIY Acne Scrub
- Mix ½ cup of sugar, ¼ cup of sesame or olive oil, 1 tablespoon of honey, and 10 drops of tea tree oil to create an exfoliating scrub. Be mindful to massage this gently into your skin.
- Not a fan of scrubs? Substitute cannabis-infused oil as your carrier for an equally soothing alternative.
3. Make an Acne Mask
- Mix 5 drops of tea tree oil with ¼ cup of plain yogurt for an antibacterial mask. Leave it on your face for 15–20 minutes before rinsing with cool water.
- Want to elevate the routine? Add a drop of CBD oil to enhance calming effects.
4. Tea Tree Oil Bath for Body Acne
- Combine 10 drops of tea tree oil with 1 cup of Epsom salt or baking soda before adding it to your bath for even distribution.
- Consider pairing it with cannabis bath salts to amplify relaxation and healing.
Cannabis to Complement Tea Tree Oil?
Cannabis-infused skincare products, particularly those featuring CBD, are becoming increasingly popular for managing skin health.
CBD is celebrated for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, making it a wonderful companion to tea tree oil.
When used together, they provide a multi-plant-powered approach to clearer, happier skin.
Some potential benefits of cannabis in skincare include:
- Reducing Sebum Production – CBD has been shown to help regulate the production of sebum, a key factor in acne breakouts.
- Calming Sensitive Skin – Cannabis topicals are known for their soothing properties, perfect for calming irritation caused by acne.
- Repairing Skin Barrier – Combining antioxidant-rich cannabis with tea tree oil can boost your skin’s ability to repair itself.
Tips for Safe Usage
While tea tree oil is a natural solution, it’s important to use it safely to prevent adverse effects. Here’s what to keep in mind:
- ⚠️ Always dilute tea tree oil with a carrier like jojoba oil, sesame oil, or even a cannabis-infused oil to avoid irritation. Essential oils are potent and should never be applied directly to the skin.
- A general guide is a 2% dilution – roughly 12 drops of tea tree oil per 1 ounce of carrier.
For cannabis products, make sure they’re from a trusted source and are clearly labeled for skincare use. Look for lab-tested products to ensure potency, purity, and safety.

I absolutely love tea tree oil. I use it in my OCM and then occasionally if I get any crazy break outs.
I love your blog.. very nice colors & theme. Did you make this website yourself or did you hire someone to do it for you?
Plz reply as I’m looking to create my own blog and would like
to find out where u got this from. many thanks
Hi Brenda, I created my own blog but I have been working online for years! Nothing wrong with hiring someone if you don’t know where to start. 🙂 Contact my husband and I through our business site if you would like more info. http://growyourgreenbusiness.com
This is an excellent article about using Tea Tree oil. My son and I lived on a yacht in Fiji and the South Pacific for awhile. I “knew” I needed to take some medicinal things with us when we headed there and tea tree was one of those I felt I should bring. While we were gone, my son got chicken pox. Between the antibacterial cleanser I also had and the tea tree, after one cleansing and tea tree application, all the itching stopped – and never came back. Things started to immediately heal. Tea Tree is quite strong and its a bit too much for me personally. But, its definitely a medicine chest in a bottle and I take some everywhere – because you just never know when you might need it. My son is now dealing with acne. We will definitely try your suggestions. Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing Debbie!
I’ve had problems with cystic acne for almost 20 years and tea tree has been my savior! I like to add it to coconut oil and scrub my face with that mixture and some baking soda. Works like a charm!
I use tea tree oil from Nature Made from Walgreens to treat earaches, do you know if this brand is good quality for facial use? Thanks!
I’m not familiar with their TTO, Alex, but I have used other products of theirs that were pure! Maybe someone here will chime in. Good luck!
I just tried this and wow! I had great skin all until after I had my first baby, then over the last 9 years I’ve struggled with horrible cystic acne on my chin and jaw line. I thought it was my make up, my cleanser, my lip gloss, food and finally I just figured im stuck with it. Mine comes about every 3 months and when it comes it is bad. Deep, painful and huge. I tried many topical products and finally this is working. Thank you so much for sharing this! Truly a blessing.
I’m SO glad, Chelsea!
