Whether it be at work or home, many members of my Well With Cannabis Community are simply busy and need easy, on-the-go, cannabis-infused recipes.

So, your magical cannabis Fairy Godmother is here to bring you this sweet and creamy cannabis buttermint recipe with printable instructions, expert tips & tricks, and fully answered FAQs.

What You’ll Need

  • ½ cup Bliss Cannabutter: Purchase my perfectly dosed Bliss Cannabutter, or make your own in a crockpot or Instant Pot. The cannabutter needs to be softened to room temperature for the best result. It won’t cream together well if it is cold and hard. Completely melted is not ideal, either. You can substitute cannabis coconut oil here, but it should be at room temperature, too.
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt: for taste. Use regular salt or cannabis salt.
  • 4 cups powdered sugar: divided for best results, sift the sugar well. You can use regular or cannabis-infused powdered sugar.
  • 1 Tablespoon milk: You can substitute with a dairy-free alternative if desired or cannamilk for a stronger final batch of cannabutter mints.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Food coloring: A totally optional ingredient, but this is what creates the various colored mints. You can also use natural food coloring if desired.

Note: A complete list of ingredients with amounts and printable instructions is located on the recipe card below.

The Step-by-Step Process

  • Step 1 – Beat the cannabutter in a mixing bowl until smooth.
  • Step 2 – Add the salt to the butter and mix at medium speed. Gradually add in 2 cups of powdered sugar while mixing.
  • Step 3 – Add the milk, vanilla, and peppermint and mix.
  • Step 4 – Increase the mixing speed and gradually add 1½ additional cups of powdered sugar until a dough is formed.
  • Step 5 – Divide the dough into 3-4 equal portions, depending on how many colors you want.
  • Step 6 – Add your desired amount of food coloring and knead the dough until well incorporated. Repeat this step for multiple colors.
  • Step 7 – Divide your colored dough into smaller balls. Roll these balls into long cylinders (snakes) about ½ inch thick.
  • Step 8 – Cut the cylinders into ½ pieces.
  • Step 9 – Set aside on a sheet pan to dry.
  • Step 10 – Repeat steps 6-8 for all of your desired colors.
  • Step 11 – Allow the candies to air dry for 24 hours, covering as needed.
  • Step 12 – Store your candies in an airtight container and enjoy.

Note: complete step-by-step printable instructions are located in the recipe card below.

Storage Instructions

You can store these cannabutter mints at room temperature for up to 2 weeks (although be careful with high heat, they may melt slightly).

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month, or in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months or more.

Alternate Cannabis Infusion Options

As with all things edibles, there is more than one way to infuse something.

Below, we will explore all of the different ways you could infuse this recipe.

Cannabutter or Coconut Oil

Cannabutter is my strong preference for making this recipe; it’s just not the same without it.

Whether you want to use the crockpot, Instant Pot, or infusion machine, all will get the job done.

While I haven’t tested it yet, I think you should be able to substitute cannabis coconut oil in place of the cannabutter with no problems.

Cannabis Sugar

You can very easily turn traditional cannabis sugar into powdered cannabis sugar if you want.

Simply blend together 1 cup of cannabis sugar with 1 cup of cornstarch in a high-speed blender or food processor.

This will turn the sugar into powdered form, making it perfect for this recipe.

Cannabis Concentrates

You can easily use cannabis concentrates in this recipe.

From distillate or CO2 oil, to shatter or wax, and FECO or RSO, all can work.

Depending on what concentrate you are using, you will want to ensure that your cannabis concentrate is decarbed first if needed.

If you are not sure if your cannabis concentrate needs to be decarbed, you can check this guide here.

Once you know whether you need to decarb your concentrate, you can gently warm it and mix it into the butter or oil called for in this recipe.

How much you will add is up to you and your personal taste preferences, 1mL or 1 gram is a good place to start.

Notes and Expert Tips

  • The dough can also be rolled out 1/4 inch thick, and bite-size cookie cutters can be used instead of rolling and segmenting.
  • If using salted butter, omit the kosher salt from the recipe.
  • If the dough gets too crumbly when rolling, a drop or 2 of milk can be added and kneaded into portioned dough.
  • Other flavorings can be substituted for the peppermint extract; use the same amount.  Lemon, raspberry, and coconut extracts are delightful!
  • Store these mints in a container that will keep them from getting smashed.
  • Be mindful of how much THC you add if you want to microdose

Sweet, Creamy Cannabis Buttermints

These sweet, creamy cannabis buttermints are a simple way to consume cannabis quickly, easily, and discretely. Made with cannabutter, these mints are a creamy pop of joy in small, edible form.
Cook: 30 minutes
Drying Time (Idle): 1 day
Total: 1 day 30 minutes
Servings: 16 ¼ cup servings

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Bliss Cannabutter softened, not melted
  • teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups powdered sugar sifted, divided
  • 1 Tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 5 drops food coloring of choice optional

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
  • In a medium-sized mixing bowl, beat the cannabutter with a hand mixer at medium speed until it is smooth and creamy.
  • Add the salt. While continuing to mix at medium speed, gradually add 2 cups of the powdered sugar. Allowing each addition to incorporate before adding more. This will help bring the mix together without clumping.
  • Add the milk, vanilla and peppermint extracts to the bowl and mix on low speed until incorporated.
  • Increase the speed to medium and gradually add about 1½ cups of the remaining powdered sugar to the mixture. This will develop a dough consistency. A little more powdered sugar can be added if it's too wet, but adding too much will make the dough crumbly.
  • Divide your dough into 3 or 4 equal portions, depending on how many colors you want. Wrap each ball in plastic wrap to keep the dough from drying out.
  • If adding color, take one of your dough portions and add 1-4 drops of food coloring. Add more or less for color intensity. Next, knead the color into the dough until evenly incorporated. Set aside. For multiple colors, repeat this step.
  • Lightly dust a clean, flat work surface with some of the remaining ½ cup of confectioners sugar.
  • Divide your colored dough portion into golf ball-sized pieces. Roll them one-by-one between your flat palms and work surface to create long cylinders (think snakes) approximately a ½ inch thick.
  • With a sharp knife cut, the cylinders into ½ inch segments. Then, with a thin spatula, pick up the candies and place them on the reserved sheet pan to dry.
  • Repeat steps 9 and 10 until all colors are complete.
  • Cover the sheet pan with a breathable option, like a screen or cheesecloth, and allow the candies to air dry for at least 24 hours.
  • Your cannabis buttermints are now ready to enjoy! Store the candies in an air-tight container for 7-10 days at room temperature or 1-2 months in the refrigerator. We bet you will eat them faster than that…

Notes

  • Concentrate can be used instead of Cannabutter, just substitute the same amount of plain butter for Cannabutter and add your concentrate to the plain butter in step 1.
  • The dough can also be rolled out 1/4 inch thick and bite size cookie cutters can be used instead of rolling and segmenting.
  • If using salted butter, omit the kosher salt from recipe.
  • If dough gets too crumbly when rolling, a drop or 2 of milk can be added and kneaded into portioned dough.
  • Other flavorings can be substituted for the peppermint extract, just use the same amount.  Lemon, Raspberry, Coconut, etc, extracts are delightful!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I infuse this recipe with another flavor other than mint?

Definitely! Feel free to use orange, lemon, coconut, or any other flavor of choice.

How many servings does this recipe make?

Four cups total, for 16 ¼ cup servings.

Can I dry these mints with a dehydrator?

Yes, but only if your dehydrator has a fan and no heat setting. If you introduce any heat during the drying process, you run the risk of melting the candies.

Can you give me some ideas on when to serve these mints?

Absolutely! This recipe is great for birthday parties, graduation parties, wedding favors, baby showers, fancy dinners, or any event. It is also perfect for an on-the-go pick-me-up!

Do you have any tips on how to carry these mints with me on the go?

I recommend that you purchase a small glass jar or mint container so that the mints don’t become easily squished together when carrying them. Just be sure to avoid high heat.

Love love love these. They are one of my go to recipes (top 3 that I make monthly) and I always come to your site first when trying anything new. You are amazing and I appreciate your work.

  2. Thank you so, so much for your kind words Mollie ? I am so glad you are enjoying the recipes!

  3. I am so glad you’re enjoying them, Jodie! You can enjoy them any way you want. The consistency will depend on how long you leave them out to dry. If you want them soft, dry less, if you want them hard, dry more 🙂

  4. Hey Sue! I haven’t tried it myself, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. You could always try a virgin test batch to double-check first. Let us know how it turns out for you 🙂

  5. Hey Lisa. I haven’t personally tried it, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work! If you’re nervous, make a virgin test-batch with non-infused coconut oil first to see if it works 🙂

  6. I’ve made these mints and they were awesome. I would like to use this recipe with Green Dragon tincture. Could you please let me know how that would work. Thanks again.

  7. Hi Brenda. It can definitely work, but you have to reduce your tincture down to FECO and then add it directly into the butter that the recipe calls for. I hope this helps!
