Alternate Cannabis Infusion Options
As with all things edibles, there is more than one way to infuse something. Below we will explore all of the different ways you could infuse this recipe.
- Cannabutter: This is the most popular way to infuse. You can buy my Bliss cannabutter or make your own with a: stovetop, crockpot, Instant Pot, kief, or CBD. You can adjust the amount of cannabutter used alongside regular butter to control your dose if needed.
- Cannabis oil: Coconut oil is a popular staple recipe essential for every kitchen; however, using liquid oils, like MCT oil or olive oil, may negatively affect the end product.
- Concentrates and extracts: Easily make these treats with concentrates like distillate or FECO. Just be sure to check if your concentrate needs to be decarbed first. Then, simply mix the concentrate with normal butter or coconut oil, and then prepare the recipe according to the instructions below with your mixture.
- Tincture: if you want to use an alcohol tincture in this recipe, be sure to evaporate the alcohol and make FECO first.
- Decarbed Flower: You can add decarbed flower or decarbed kief right into the flour mixture. Just be mindful of adding the right dose for you, especially if you are not a regular consumer of edibles.

Notes and Expert Tips

Wanted to bring to your attention re: making the recipe dairy free was the question on your answer list, the reply from EK & co. was use coconut oil in place of butter. I’d like to point out this may not be entirely true, depending on what cereals you choose to work with; let me substantiate- I cook mostly rice krispie style edibles for an individual with severely chronic auto-immune issues, particularly dairy. This person showed me how to best tell which cereals are considered dairy and not. Emily, you may find this of interest!
When I shop to make eddies for this lady, I look at the Kosher mark on the cereal boxes. If not dairy, just the U symbol will show. If in fact the cereal contains dairy, you could see the U with a “D” besides it. Not every cereal will have the U or D, so we don’t mess with those. Also very careful about add ins and/or toppings for this person, generally go with Craisins, tasty and not an issue. There may be additional methods to determine, but reading ingredient list is not always the sure thing, many ingredients go by other names, so we do not use that way.
Lastly, wanted to mention a caveat, as this happened to me, without harm,, but could have. You know the precautions for alcohol and heat/flame….A few batches ago, took the melted contents off the heat and added the vanilla to it, and for the 1st time ever it flashed! I jumped back just in time, but going forward, when removing pan from heat, I let it sit for a few moments, so you can see the alcohol bubble and burn off, but not flash. In my mind, one flash is one too many! Hoping my points can help or spare someone some food or flame agony!
Thanks for sharing!
I have infused MCT oil. Can I sub that for the butter? Maybe if I add some lecithin?
I haven’t tried it with MCT oil, let me know how it turns out.
I used 1/8 of dabs with 3 sticks of butter and tried this recipe out, totaled out to about 85mg/serving if cut in 9, about 40 if cut smaller assuming an even distribution anyway. Definitely gets sticky fast so you gotta be quick handed. I had a real easy time getting it in the 8×8 by lining parchment paper on bottom, filling, then parchment paper on top also and pressing into form. In about an hour I’ll find out if im sleeping for the rest of the week or not. My only question about this recipe… as a HUGE honey fan is there an alternative recipe that incorporates cannahoney as an alternative to the marshmellow/butter combo possibly? Would be tricky but could be amazing. I’d try myself but lack the experimental culinary confidence and or knowledge haha.
Thanks for sharing your experience, George! Love the parchment paper tip β super helpful! As for cannahoney, itβs definitely possible to experiment, but it might take some trial and error to get the texture right without the marshmallow. Maybe try mixing it with another sticky binder like nut butter? Let us know if you give it a shot! π
Absolutely loveeeee these, every recipe I make of yours turns out absolutely amazing π€©π€©

I donβt like marshmallows, can I use something else to help it all stick together? Like peanut butter?
Absolutely Fran, peanut butter is a great alternative to marshmallows for these cannabis rice krispie treats. It offers a unique flavor and can be a good option if you’re not a fan of marshmallows. May may need to adjust the quantity to achieve the desired consistency and taste, but that’s a personal preference. Enjoy your treats!
We use cinnamon toast crunch minis (they are little balls and hubby found them when intending to get the regular cinnamon toast crunch) and they are delicious.
Oh Tammy! This sounds delightful!! Thank you for sharing.
When using Cinnamon Toast Crunch, should I break them up?
Hi Chris. For making Rice Krispie treats with a twist using Cinnamon Toast Crunch, there’s no need to break them up. Keeping the cereal whole will add texture and ensure each bite is packed with its signature cinnamon flavor. Happy cooking!
Made my own butter. Kinda like one guy asked was 7tbs was too much butter. I had a little extra but they came out delicious aside from my squares being somewhere around 30-35mg per, this is an excellent recipe.! Thanks
Hi Avery. Thank you for your feedback. We’re so happy to hear you enjoyed the recipe!
Came out perfect! Thank you for the recipe!
Hi Vanessa. This makes us so happy! Thank you for sharing your success with us. π€
I just made them with Fruity Pebbles and I drizzled white chocolate over them! Now they have to cool!
Hi Carole. What a tasty twist! Thank you for sharing.
If my jar only has 7 tbs of canna butter left would that b to much for a 9Γ13 pan of rice Krispy bars
Hi Doug. Using too much butter can make your treats soggy, but maybe adding extra cereal and marshmallows may help.
Will this recipe work for a 9×13 pan
Hi Doug. Yes, 9×13 will work, but the treats won’t be as thick.
Made this recipe using the cocoa rice crispys came out delicious thank you for this recipe
Hi Dre. That sounds delicious! ? Thank you for sharing!
I’m confused with what your measurements are for the marshmallows. 10 ounces doesn’t equal 5 cups. 10 ounces is about 1.25 cups not 5 cups. Can you please clarify? Thank you!
Hi Heather. Using the Jet-Puffed Mini Marshmallows, a 10oz bag is roughly 420 mini marshmallows that total to about 6 cups. I hope this helps!
I want to use shredder wheat, do I use 6 cups crushed, or equal to ,6 cups crushed
Hello Ms. L, I haven’t tried this recipe with shredded wheat, but I would probably use 6 cups crushed π Let us know how it turns out for you!
I note that this recipe has 2X as much cannabutter (6 TBSP) for 6 cups of rice krispies as the original Kelloggs recipe, which calls for only 3 TBSP of butter. Won’t this make the cannabutter version quite greasy compared with regular RC squares?
Hi Joe, no, I did not find this version of the recipe to be any more greasy than the traditional recipe π
