In this guide, I will go over multiple infusion options, my fool-proof smoothie formula, and review the most frequently asked questions about how to make cannabis smoothies at home.
Ways to Infuse a Smoothie
There are many different ways you can make a delicious cannabis smoothie at home; you need to decide which type of cannabis-infused ingredient you want to start with.
You should choose an option based on what you have available, your personal taste preferences, and your preference for CBD or THC.
Remember, there are various products to try, but it’s important to find the one that works best for you and your unique endocannabinoid system.

This cannabis cooking oil made with THC+CBD will take all of the guesswork out of cooking with cannabis, allowing you to infuse any recipe.
Cannabis Oil
This is a popular option because it is super easy to add directly to any smoothie if you already have prepared oil.
I’ve seen people add my Bliss Oil, CBD oil, cannabis-infused coconut oil, MCT oil, and even olive oil to their regular smoothie recipe.
How much to add will be up to you, the potency of your oil, and your personal tolerance.
*Because oil is high in calories, this may be a great option for those who are suffering from a loss of appetite.
Cannabis Tincture
Not to be confused with oil, an alcohol-based tincture can also be used to infuse a smoothie.
Members of my community report adding a small bit of a Green Dragon or QWET tincture to their favorite smoothie recipes.
While this option may have a strong taste for some, depending on how much alcohol has been evaporated, others enjoy this quick and easy way to medicate.
Cannabis Leaves
While some people discard their large cannabis fan leaves, many others prefer to use as much fresh cannabis as possible to reap the health benefits.
Using raw cannabis leaves to make a raw cannabis smoothie works just like any of your other favorite leafy greens, like kale leaves.
Remember that fan leaves in their raw form contain little to no active cannabinoids, which means they will provide little to no psychoactive effects.
They do, however, contain important nutrients, antioxidants, and cannabinoid acids like THCA and CBDA, meaning they still contain important therapeutic properties.
This is also a refreshing way to enjoy the benefits of your favorite strains of the cannabis plant if you have any.
Leftover Cannabis Pulp
Instead of throwing out leftover cannabis flower pulp from making cannabis oil or tincture, many people choose to use it in a delicious smoothie recipe.
For smoothie recipes featuring cannabis pulp, it is still recommended to start low and go slow.
This will give you time to experiment with not only the potency but the taste, too.
Cannabis Concentrates
Making edibles with cannabis concentrates is one of the most convenient, easy-to-use, pre-prepared concentrated products for cannabis infusions.
Because they are concentrated, you only need to add a tiny bit to each recipe to get the experience you are looking for.
With this method, be sure to dose properly.
Even just a small bit of distillate or full-extract cannabis oil (FECO) can result in a very potent cannabis smoothie.
Homemade Recipes
One of the best ways to make a smoothie quickly is to use what you already have on hand.
Some of the most common homemade cannabis edibles that you may already have on hand include:
- Cannabis milk
- Cannabis sugar
- Cannabis honey
- Cannabis juice
- Infused maple syrup
Follow The Smoothie Formula
Now that you’ve settled on an infusion option let’s get started with a basic weed smoothie formula that will help you get the most important ingredients in.
Fruits & Vegetables
Adding at least 1 cup of fresh fruit and 1 cup of vegetables or dark greens to each smoothie is a great way to get the most fiber, essential vitamins like vitamin C, and other plant-based benefits.
Nearly all raw fruits work well in a fruit smoothie; some favorite fruits include strawberries, blueberries, bananas, raspberries, pineapple, mango, and peaches.
If you’re craving a creamy cannabis smoothie, adding a large banana is my favorite way to get the best consistency.
The mildest-tasting vegetables that work best in a healthy smoothie include carrots, butternut squash, yellow squash, zucchini, and cauliflower.
You can always make green smoothies with dark green vegetables like raw cannabis leaves, kale, and spinach, too.
Fruit & Vegetable Combo Examples:
- Tropical island – pineapple, mango, and carrots
- Fruity – mixed berries and cauliflower
- Nutty – frozen banana, zucchini, hemp hearts and almond butter
Pro Tip: Using frozen fruits and frozen vegetables is oftentimes more affordable, reduces food waste, and is still a tasty way to enjoy your favorite ingredients.
Liquid of Choice
It’s time to choose what liquid you will use to blend the base ingredients with.
Normally about 1 cup to 1¼ cup of liquid is the perfect amount for a one-serving smoothie, but you can adjust that based on your texture preferences.
If you are looking for a thicker drink, lowering your liquid, adding in extra bananas, greek yogurt, or nut butter, and using any milk instead of water will give you a much fuller smoothie.
Common liquids chosen for smoothies include:
- Water or ice cubes
- Coconut water
- Cannabis-infused milk
- Dairy-based or plant-based, like almond milk, oat milk, or hemp seed milk
- Fruit juice
Your Favorite Add-Ins
There are so many options when it comes to add-ins for a smoothie.
Several powerful nutrient-dense foods called superfoods go great in smoothies, and you wouldn’t even know that they are in there.
Delicious, nutritious options:
- Hemp seeds
- Chia seeds
- Ground flax seeds
- Raw cannabis leaves
- Maca powder
- Cacao nibs
- Nut butter: hemp seed butter, peanut butter, cashew butter, almond butter – also great to be used as a thickener!
Optional Protein Powder
Adding protein powder to your smoothies is a great option, especially if you are making a meal out of it.
Protein is an important nutrient to keep you full, and it can prevent you from snacking or getting hungry later on.
Thankfully, there are so many different protein powders on the market today that you can choose one to suit your dietary and personal taste preferences and needs.
