Alternate Infusion Options

Like all things cannabis, there are many ways to infuse something. There are two different ways to incorporate cannabis into this taco seasoning recipe.

Decarbed Cannabis Flower

Using decarbed cannabis flowers is no different than using any other ground spice or herb in this recipe.

But before you incorporate cannabis as an ingredient in any recipe, it’s essential to understand the process of decarboxylation or decarbing first.

Raw cannabis flower contains nutrients and other amazing compounds, like CBDA, THCA, and terpenes in their fresh and dried state.

However, raw cannabis plants do not naturally contain large amounts of active THC or CBD, the two most popular cannabinoids.

To experience the benefits of activated THC or CBD, cannabis must first undergo decarboxylation

If you’ve never gone through the process before, have no fear, decarbing is simple.

If you have never decarbed before, you can get started with my beginner’s guide to cannabis decarboxylation here.

After this process, you can add this decarbed flower to any recipe, such as my favorite cannabis ranch dressing or these tasty cannabis-deviled eggs.

Because each person has a different endocannabinoid system and responds to cannabis differently, it is crucial to dose an appropriate amount for your tolerance.

This recipe calls for 1 teaspoon of ground, decarbed cannabis flower, but you can adjust this as needed to suit your needs.

Decarbed Kief

Kief is a fine, powdery substance that accumulates at the bottom of a grinder or other cannabis container.

Kief typically contains the highest concentration of resinous glands, or trichomes, that contain cannabinoids like THC, CBD, CBG, etc.

This means that kief can be much more potent than flower or trim.

Because of this, you may be able to use less of it in this recipe, or more, depending on the effect you’re looking for.

Remember that you still need to decarb the kief just as you would traditional flower to enjoy the benefits of CBD, THC, CBG, etc.

If you’ve never worked with kief before, you can get my complete guide to decarbing and making edibles with kief here.

Pair With A Fat Source

If you use cannabis flower or kief to make this infused taco seasoning, it’s important to pair this seasoning with a meal that includes fat.

This is because cannabis is better absorbed by the body when paired with fat.

Studies show that cannabinoids are 2.5-3x more bioavailable to the body when paired with a fat source.

Because of this, I urge you to consider adding some fat to the meal you are consuming for the best overall experience.

If you make traditional ground beef tacos, the fat naturally present in the ground beef is the perfect way to ensure your cannabinoids are more easily absorbed.

Alternatively, you could add a teaspoon or two of your favorite cannabutter to the already-cooked meat. Options include:

Wholesome Ingredients

This recipe is 100% all-natural, gluten-free, and vegan and is wholesome, unlike many prepackaged options in the store.

Prepackaged seasonings are also typically full of artificial ingredients and high amounts of sodium.

With this recipe, you have complete control over the amount of salt or sodium you add to adjust it based on your personal needs.

And making taco seasoning from scratch allows you to control the spice level, making it as spicy or mild as you need.

That’s the best thing about homemade cannabis recipes. Not do you get to use fresh ingredients, but they taste so much better.

As with most things, you’re usually better off making them from scratch.

Notes and Expert Tips

  • When cooking meat for tacos, I recommend adding 1/4 cup of taco seasoning plus 1/2 cup of water per pound of meat.
  • For the ground chili pepper – you can choose any chili pepper you want depending on how spicy you want your seasoning. If you want a spicier version, try cayenne pepper. For a mild version, try a New Mexico or Ancho chili pepper. For everyday use, we use a New Mexico chili pepper.
